A major reprocessing department upgrade that strengthens surgical safety across one of BC’s busiest hospitals. The Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) at VGH is central to patient safety, ensuring every instrument used in surgery is cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use.
This 7,400 sq.ft. phased renovation replaced aging washers and sterilizers, added new sinks and automated door systems, and implemented an extensive Rotomat storage solution with more than a dozen sterile supply and implant Rotomats all while maintaining continuous operations under strict CSA Z317.13 infection-control requirements. WEE provided the full electrical design supporting this transformation, including connections for sterilizers and cart washers, integration of Rotomat automation, distribution and redundancy upgrades, lighting, and life-safety systems.
Our team worked closely within the constraints of an active acute-care environment, ensuring every system met hospital resilience standards. A future-ready reprocessing hub that elevates efficiency, reliability, and surgical safety at a critical provincial healthcare facility.
